Apple Cranberry Smoothie
Fruits will become distant memories as it gets colder, so I’ve been looking for a really good and really yummy apple cranberry beverage recipe beyond “cranapple” juice cocktails, something that truly represented this time of year.
Apples and cranberries are THE superfoods for digestive and urinary tract health. Combined with yogurt and honey, you’ll get a nutrient-dense, antibacterial, probiotic power smoothie.
This is a great way to get more apples and cranberries into your diet, try this fabulously yum-may recipe:
Use fresh or frozen cranberries.
Apple Cranberry Smoothie
Ingredients
1 apple, quartered (skin, seeds, and all)
1 /2 cup cranberries
3/4-1 cup vanilla yogurt (individual cups of yogurt will be 6 or 8oz), or Kefir of your choice
1/2 tb honey
2-3 cubes ice, optional
Adapted from: Smoothies & Juices: Over 200 Delicious Recipes
Directions
Add all ingredients to your Vita-Mix and blend until smooth.
Makes about 20-24 ounces, depending on the size of the apple.
Apple seeds have trace levels of cyanide in them, which, while it won’t kill you, may give you a headache. (Doesn’t bother me) Leave them in or remove them: your choice.
I used So Delicious Coconut Milk Vanilla Yogurt. If you use Kefir, you may want to adjust the honey, depending on how sweet you want it.
Ice will thin your smoothie and take away some of the sweetness. If you don’t want to use ice, cut and freeze the apple along with the cranberries ahead of time.
This smoothie offers 2-3 servings of fruit and will be about 340-360 calories, depending on the type of yogurt or Kefir you use (dairy will give more calories) and the size of your apple.
