Peach Blueberry Smoothie
Most of my “recipes” are created just by looking around the kitchen and seeing what I have.
I wanted to use up the last of the plain flax oil that’s been sitting in the fridge, as well as make use of the wheat germ.
Flax oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids – good for hair, skin, nails, and overall brain function.
Wheat germ contains essential nutrients such as Vitamin E, folate, phosphorous, thiamin, zinc, magnesium, and fatty acids.
Both are pretty temperamental, so take care to store them properly.
Keep flax oil refrigerated when not in use, and never heat flax oil, as heat destroys its beneficial properties.
Wheat germ can go rancid if left out, especially in sunlight, so keep it refrigerated after opening.
Ingredients
3/4 cups blueberries
4 fresh peaches, sliced off pit with skin on
1 banana
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 tbs flax oil
1/2 c cold hemp milk or milk of your choice
Directions
Place all ingredients in your Vita-Mix in the order listed (top-down). Start with the settings at Variable Speed #1 and gradually increase speed to #10 for about 30 seconds.
Switch to High Speed and blend for about 15 to 20 moreĀ seconds or until completely blended.
This yields approximately 20 ounces, give or take the size of the peaches and how much liquid you add.
Make it your own: It’s your smoothie! Feel free to add more or less of any of the ingredients.
Note: You can use any combination of fresh and frozen fruit for this, but when using fresh, ripe is always best. Flax oil can make a smoothie less sweet, so if you want that sweet taste, feel free to add more fruit or a little of your favorite sweetener.
